Barney Jones – Creative Photographer & Video Maker

Barney Jones is a talented, creative filmmaker, photographer, video editor, and for me the best part – he’s also my son.  One of the things we share is a love of the outdoors, cinema and filmmaking so it’s perhaps no surprise that he’s a key member of the team.

Barney likes to travel and creates short cinematic ‘filmettes’ of his adventures using his unique engaging style (see example below).  Check out his videos and pictures on instagram.

360 Degree Interactive Photos

We now offer 360 degree photos for websites.  This can give an informative  and interactive tour experience, close to being there!  Ideal for interior tours of just about anywhere, including hotels and accommodation, museums and art galleries.

I recently had a lovely stay at The Grosvenor guesthouse in Bude, Cornwall, and created this 360 photographic tour of the dining room.

How about a tour of a Devon garden.

Here’s one of the “Castle” in Bude – down by the river and canal.

Further around the Cornish coast, here’s a lovely beach near Padstow.

The Wild Weekenders, Channel 4 TV

We were worked with a TV film crew to shoot some aerial (drone) video sequences for a new Channel 4 TV programme called the “Wild Weekenders”. The scheduled programme date is 14th April 2017 (Good Friday) on Channel 4 TV.

The Wild Weekenders film crew with Adam Buxton and Ashley Hone trekking their way up to Sheeps Tor, Dartmoor.

We filmed the aerial views of presenters Adam Buxton (actor/comedian/presenter) and  “wild camping” consultant,  Ashley Hone as they explored a Dartmoor tor and took in the amazing views.

Access 2013 Forms Slow

(Update: 11 Aug 2016 – The best thing I have tried to date is by downloading and running the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool .  You may need to restart your PC after using this.  I saved a copy of the repair tool file to an easy to find folder on my hard disk because I have to re-run it from time to time to re-apply the fix.  I’ve been trying this fix for several months and so far it has always fixed the problem, albeit until the next time!

(Plea to Microsoft: Please, please fix this – Access is a brilliant small scale database platform that remains pretty much unequalled in it’s class!)

I recently had an issue with MS Access 2013 and tabbed controls where clicking on a tab would make MS Access hang for about 5 seconds.  I’m using MS Windows 8.1 and MS Office 365 with MS Access 2013.

An example is where I open a form that has a tab control on it.  In this case, my tab control had 4 tabs.  After opening the form,  when I clicked on another tab, MS Access hung for about 5 seconds before showing the tab.  It didn’t matter which tab I clicked on, I always had to wait 5 seconds for it to show.

Another symptom could be found when designing an MS Access database.  The Properties window, which is also tabbed takes an age to switch tabs and you can even see the screen redrawing itself – it’s that slow!

This issue has come and gone by itself a few times, and after lots of Googling, I finally found a work around.

From within MS Access, click File, Options, Current Database, then down to the setting called “Use Windows-themed Controls on Forms”.  Un-check this box.

When ‘checked on’ this setting gives the MS Access interface a more rounded look, but clearly has a problem when activated.

Hope that helps someone who has been as equally tortured by this bug as me.

Award Winning Clients

We are proud of our work and proud of our clients too!  Now 3 of our video clients won industry awards in 2014/15.  Videos are an excellent way of promoting a business or organisation to the wider community including displays at trade shows and award ceremonies.

Video for Amtek Plastics

This month sees the release of the Amtek Plastics corporate video.

We worked closely with Mark Amphlett, marketing manager at Amtek Plastics to create a video that explains how Amtek Plastics has the edge on other plastic inject moulding companies and how they support manufacturing in the UK and reshoring.

Amtek Plastics have just added a new warehouse to their business which allows them to keep more stock for their customers.  This video is a time-lapse of the video being filled with stock from the factory.

Video Marketing

Great video is a must for modern businesses and organisations.

It’s practically impossible to meet all your followers/clients in person, so the quickest way to get your message across is by video. Put the video on your website plus all the social media you use including Linked In, Facebook and Twitter – but whatever you do make sure it looks and sounds professional and engages the viewer.

Make the most of video to promote awareness about a business or organisation, products, services and activities.

Good video production companies can guide you through the process, and given your set of requirements, produce a video that works for you.

You don’t need to figure out how the video will be done – that’s our job!

Video for Reach Outdoors

Lena Video helped Reach Outdoors to use video to give a realistic taste of their Coasteering activity.

Reach Outdoors provide a variety of exciting outdoor activities and wanted to show how enjoyable and challenging these are by creating a video for YouTube and their website.  We got very wet during this shoot but it was absolutely vital to jump in with both feet and showcase the experience.

This is a video that shows exactly what people can expect when they go coasteering with Reach Outdoors Ltd.

About Reach Outdoors

It was established by long term friends and colleagues Ashley Hone, Rachel Mayhew and Richard Hanbury, who have over 25 years combined experience of outdoor practice.
